Paperjam + Delano and Luxembourg for Finance are delighted to announce their first Finance Awards – another chance for us to give recognition to those in the finance industry who continued to show excellence and outstanding expertise during the year.
The 2023 Finance Awards celebrate finance professionals rewarded by their peers in eight categories.
2023 Award Categories
Visionary
This is a reward for a person who has directly contributed to the development of the Luxembourg financial centre, through their vision, long-term ambitions, leadership, and ability to assemble resources and provide leadership to quickly put in place the structures and products that make Luxembourg an attractive financial centre.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• A clear illustration of the individual’s contribution to various initiatives to improve the development and international reach of the Luxembourg finance sector.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
Banking Personality
This award recognises a person for their impressive digital innovation efforts and significant enhancements in the bank’s distribution channels as well as its management of customer experience, communications, engagement, and relationships.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• A clear illustration of the individual’s contribution to various initiatives to promote the development of digital innovation and general enhancement of the client relationship management.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
Insurance Personality
This award will be presented to a person who has set new standards in insurance innovation over and above business as usual – which could be in process, product, service, technology, data, or media –, covering both business-to-consumer and business-to-business relationships and offerings.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• A clear illustration of the individual’s contribution to innovations that significantly enhance the way their company engages with customers. These new approaches create value through, for example, seamless and personalised experiences across physical and/or digital channels, new client management models or AI-driven advice, turning regulatory guidelines into a commercial advantage and innovative management of customer loyalty and satisfaction.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
Funds Personality
This reward is open to individuals working within Luxembourg’s fund industry in any role. The person will be awarded for their overall achievements and work within the industry, which could include mentoring or acting as a role model, or who has impressed colleagues with their commitment to achieve excellence thanks to their innovation and outstanding knowledge in their area of expertise.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• A clear illustration of the individual’s contribution to innovation and adaptation to market change. Our jury will recognise outstanding achievements in rising to new challenges, together with a strong commitment to initiate innovative solutions to stay one step ahead of an evolving marketplace.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
ESG Champion
For this first edition, we have decided to recognise an individual who can demonstrate a holistic and long-term commitment to D&I within their company culture. This category will honour a person who is at the forefront of empowering colleagues to bring their whole selves to the workplace, while inspiring others with a sense of purpose, passion and commitment, and are true ambassadors – internally and externally – for their company.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• A clear illustration of the individual’s long-term and sustainable support for diversity and inclusion – demonstrating that the outcome is not a one-off or temporary initiative.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
Private Equity Executive
This award will recognise an executive leading key investment and/or transaction decisions for a private equity firm, fund, or financial institution active in private markets. Dynamic candidates are deploying innovative strategies, producing both quantitative and qualitative results, notably helping place Luxembourg’s PE sector in the spotlight, creating new opportunities for Luxembourg players, and/or building capacity in the Grand Duchy.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• A clear illustration of high levels of innovation and performance data against benchmarks.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
Fintech Entrepreneur
This award will recognise an individual – either from the private sector or with an industry-supported initiative from a professional association – that has led programmes or activities which have significantly benefitted the financial technology ecosystem in Luxembourg. This could include creating a new solution, leading an organisation that has benefitted the players in the financial technology sector, or has created policies, procedures or resources that have boosted the growth of the fintech industry.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• An individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the transformation and growth of the Luxembourg fintech sector, either through defining new standards, launching a key technology initiative, or driving a regulatory-related change that benefits the industry and delivers benefits to investors, business and/or consumers.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had an impact on their company and their sector.
Capital Markets - Leading M&A Expert
Leading M&A expert
This award will recognise an individual’s remarkable experiences in M&A.
Industry expertise, strong cross-border abilities, top notch legal and technical knowledge, creative advisory work on complex transactions and exceptional negotiating skills make this person the most sought-after M&A expert in Luxembourg.
The grand jury will be looking for:
• Volume and value of deals undertaken, as well as complexity, individual achievement, innovative strategic work and/or standout leadership.
• This category also extends to include how the individual’s initiatives had impact on their company and their sector.
Selection & Voting procedure
The Paperjam + Delano journalists have rigorously selected a pool of 350 eligible finance professionals based on the main Associations’ members.
The winners of each category will be determined by this same group of professionals who will be part of the grand jury, which give these awards their true value. So, they are both voters and eligibles.
Voting will take place from 5 to 17 June 2023 on a secure platform dedicated to this purpose in order to guarantee a quality vote.
To ensure all finance professionals have a fair chance of winning an award, one professional cannot be awarded in multiple categories in the same year.
Each professional can vote only once per category. The votes are anonymous, with no personal information from the reader being stored on the website, except for non-personally identifiable data used by the computer system to exclude duplicate votes.
